Dunedin, in New Zealand's South
Island, played host to the 1925-6 New Zealand & South Seas International
Exhibition.
Along with many other manufacturers showing their wares, The Gramophone Co
issued a souvenir.
This was a replica record, 32mm across (1¼" - the same size as a penny).
Made of aluminium, and painted black to resemble shellac, it was inscribed on
one side as follows:
HIS MASTER'S VOICE
INSTRUMENTS & RECORDS
in the middle, between the words INTERNATIONAL EXHIBITION.
Around the outside was
NEW ZEALAND & SOUTH SEAS DUNEDIN 1925-26.
On the reverse it was inscribed with concentric rings to resemble a record's
grooves, with the 'label' being the famous Nipper logo above the words HIS
MASTER'S VOICE.
It is thought the tokens were sold for 1d each.
They were supplied in small envelopes inscribed "SOUVENIR MEDAL", of
which very few seemed to have survived.
A similar item was issued for the 1924 Wembley Exhibition
